Another embarrassing moment

Don't you just love embarrassing moments? I guess you have to let those years pass when you can look back and laugh. I still kinda cringe at my lip balm moment.

As you know and have read (or will read) I am addicted to lip balm. At the very site of dry lips I can reach in my pocket, my purse, my desk or my car for a lip balm. I love them and can't leave the house without them. Whenever I see one I have to buy it especially when its on sale.

So one day I'm shopping in Bath & Body Works, restocking my supply of lotions. FYI this is a great place for impersonal gifts. Who doesn't have ashy hands? Plus it seems like whenever I go they are having their annual sale.

But anyways I digress. I stop by their Burt's Bees section and see this:

I've tried other lip balms by Burt's Bees and liked them. So when I see this I have to try it. It was the middle of summer and I had been to the beach several days and thought this would come in handy since its "Lifeguard's Choice". It also said it was for "Sun & Snow".

I'm at school one day and its the middle of midterm week. I've had little sleep and I'm coming down with the "Exam Cold". You know that "cold" that comes from stressing out over exams? You have all they symptoms, you feel like crap, you look like s**t and you just push through. The minute you finish your last exam you miraculously clear up and feel 100% normal? Yeah that cold.

So I have this cold and make my way down to the student clinic to pick up my prescription. Let me remind you that I look like I just woke up and threw whatever was clean on. I look like I've been living out of a dumpster. No, this isn't the embarrassing part because everyone around looks like me....well not exactly. Most of them look like they took a shower except for me :(

As I'm heading through the middle of campus I apply my new Burt's Bees Weatherproofing Lip Balm. My lips are dry and here's a chance to try it out. As I walk through the most busiest part of campus (its the easiest & shortest route) I notice that people are staring at me.

Ok so I look a little dirty, so what?! What the hell?! Sorry but I've been cramming my brain with about 12 books worth of information!!! Grr.

I enter the student clinic and wait patiently for my turn up to the window. That's when I get the weirdest stares. People are staring at me in disgust. Like I have hives on my face or something. Then when I go up to the window the guy looks at me like I have a disease and its staring at him in the face.

Wow I must really look bad if people don't even want to sit by me. Do I smell? Do I have something stuck on my face? Oh no, do I have some kind of sock or old bra stuck to me?

As I rush into the bathroom I see that my lips are WHITE as if I had put some kind of paint on them. This is the image that pops into my head. This is what I look like:
Greeeeeat! I looked like a crack addict.

I still cringe whenever I think about that moment. How embarrassing! All I want to know is Who is the target market for this product? only lifeguards? Who in their right mind wears this lip balm Burt's Bees? This lip balm that is as white as chalk. This lip balm that does not blend or fade but only sticks out like you just put super white Elmer's glue on your lips.

Women of Color?

When I first saw this "Women of Color" I thought it meant Not White. I guess I would fit that category. According to wikipedia I'm right but according to Pantene I'm wrong.

Pantene has this new line called

Relaxed & Natural for Women of Color
.

When I first saw this I was excited. Finally a product that is geared toward those of us who have thick or thin, frizzy & fuzzy, curly unruly dry hair. For those of us who aren't caucasian, those of us who don't have stick straight fine hair.

Yes! Jojoba oil you say? Never tried it but ok. Coconut oil? oooo sounds interesting! Pro-Vitamins? always!

It's a cream moisturizer that's supposed to be put on after you shower. So I did.

I felt like taking another shower after.

This stuff left my hair feeling OILY. My curls looked like they had been licked by a cow. My hair felt dirty, felt heavy, felt icky.

So I guess I'm not a woman of color? Did you mean to say African American Pantene? Why didn't you just put that on the front of your product?!?!

A google search of this product only shows black girls promoting this. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure there's non-black girls out there who use this product, maybe even love it. I'm not one of them.

Cold Sores

Courtesy of wulffmorgenthaler.com

There's no amount of makeup that will ever be able to hide a cold sore. A cold sore is this hideous looking blisters that come out around my lips, leak clear liquid then scab to heal. Its disgusting I know. If you like being disgusted click here for pictures (not of me).

Cold sores usually pop up when you least expect them. First you feel a little tingling, then a little burning, then a little itch. Then all of a sudden you wake up to Frankenstein Pimple smack dab in the middle of your lips. You can't hide it. No concealer on earth can hide it. (side note: don't try to hide pimples or anything crusty with concealer/foundation/blush/etc...it only attracts attention and doesn't let it heal)

yup that's me with my cold sore

Cold sores always come up when either I'm under stress, when its that time of the month, when my body temp drastically changes, or just when the universe feels like punishing me. I once had a weekend I had planned for months for a night out on the town with girlfriends and I wake up to a planet on my lips. Ah yes, nothing gets attention like a drippy crusty blister.

I've tried just about everything out there to make this thing go away or at least try to prevent it from fully growing.

I've tried Abreva. Photobucket

Doesn't work. I felt nothing putting this on. I might as well have put on regular lip balm. It makes no change on the cold sore before, during or after. It's also super expensive and comes in this tiny little tube. Photobucket

I've tried different home remedies like nail polish, rubbing alcohol, ice cubes, cold washcloth. People have different reactions to these. I've used what works for ME and it may not work for you. Try at your own risk.

When I feel the first pain tingle of the cold sore I apply Carmex
like a lip balm addict. (tangent: did you know there's actually a website devoted to lipbalm addicts?..click 2 see ....more on lip balms later) Carmex has this medicated smell to it.

As you can see by the picture I use it quite often. I also bought this tube one.

I keep the round tin at home and I keep the tube in my purse. This is a MUST for cold
sores. It's thick and has a tingly numbing
sensation to it. The round tin is heavy duty and has a thicker consistency to it. The tube is more like a light lip balm and has less of the medicine smell. Either way I have them both.

If I wake up and see the cold sore emerging its evil evil head I start to use
ice cubs to numb it out and use a q-tip to put hand sanitizer on it to dry it out. Weird, I know. It's kind of difficult and awkward to do this at work but you must not let this thing grow and you must not let this thing stay moist. DO NOT keep putting lip balm past this point.

Once its full blown you've lost the battle and you have to let this thing grow then scab to get rid of it. If its full blown it will usually last about 7 to 10 days. Then you have no choice but to make some excuse why you cannot leave your house and go to work.

Lets say this happens and you have Jupiter on your face. I alternate between ice cubes, then hand sanitizer. Then repeat over and over and over. I also found this A-M-A-Z-I-N-G little tube called Viractin. It does not in any way cure the cold sore but numbs it. It contains Tetracaine which is a numbing drug. I think it speeds up the process but that's just me. It also makes your lips feel like Angelina Jolie's. I said feel not look. Feel.

I haven't had a cold sore in about a year. *crosses fingers*

I give Carmex and Viractin 5/5 Photobucket
On the brighter side, even celebrities aren't safe from cold sores. Ouch! Thank goodness I don't have to walk a red carpet.

A tisket, a tasket lets look inside my Makeup Casket

Oh yes, my Makeup Casket otherwise known as "where makeup goes to die" or "what was I thinking pile" or "maybe i'll use it for halloween" or "it must have been a spur of the moment thing".

My Makeup Casket is a silver box, dirty, dusty and full of odds and ends in makeup.

Today I bring you (dun dun dun) The PornStar Lipgloss

Don't get me wrong. I like lipgloss....when its subtle. You see these are lip glosses that came in those makeup kits with about 200 things inside and only about 5% you use. I like lipgloss that give you a hint of color, a kiss of a shade. I do not want porn star lips or stripper shine. I do not want a beam of light coming from my mouth. I do not want stickiness or my lips glued together when I place my lips together. I do not want my lips to become like the sahara after the lipgloss dries out.

Its not that much to demand. Is it?

So I give these super highlight, disco ball on my lip, porno moviestar lipglosses a rating of
